I just returned from the IBM/SAM Combined Convention where I had a great time. It was so nice to see so many old friends there. During the convention I gave a lecture on kid show magic with Danny Orleans and Doug Scheer. (I am the only magician to lecture at both the 2008 and 2014 Combined Conventions!)
Danny spent many years performing magic for children in theaters, and Doug is the best school show magician I know. First we performed a live show for 100 real kids and followed that with our lecture. Our lecture highlighted how different our approaches to children’s magic are and how there really isn’t one right way to perform magic for children. We had a full house. I have been hearing so many compliments from people who saw it which makes me very happy. Thank you to everyone who was there.
There is no question our lecture was very well received. Many people even told me they thought our lecture was the best thing at the convention. I also heard similar feedback from the event organizers. This is great news for kids magic and kids magic lectures. If a kid show lecture can be so well-received and even considered the best lecture at the convention, then I hope other convention producers will consider having a kid show lecture at their conventions too. So many magicians perform kids magic and they want to learn from the experts in the field. I hope all conventions will automatically think of having a kids magic lecture at their conventions all the time.
